As a wedding photographer, the DTK Chapel is one of my favourite venues in Kitchener for micro-weddings and elopements. In this blog I've outlined some of my favourite features and included photos from a real wedding day at the DTK Chapel.

Venue Capacity &amp; Aesthetic
The venue comfortably hosts 20 - 30 guests, with a maximum capacity of 37 guests. Newly renovated, the DTK Chapel has a clean and cozy aesthetic. While you can bring in your own florals and decor, it's definitely not a necessity with such a beautiful space!

Inclusivity &amp; Accessibility
The DTK Chapel is a safe space that welcomes and celebrates all love. Located off of Kitchener City Hall's main floor, there are no stairs, wide doorways, and an accessible washroom located within City Hall.

Parking
There are lots of parking options available near the DTK Chapel! If you can find a spot, street parking along King Street is free for up to 2 hours. If you are looking for more secure parking, Kitchener City Hall offers paid parking in their underground parkade (the entrance is found on Young Street between King and Duke). There is elevator access from the parkade to the City Hall main floor.

Located in the heart of Downtown Kitchener, there are so many wonderful photo locations nearby. (Keep scrolling until the end to see photos at some of these locations).

1. The chapel itself is beautifully decorated with a modern yet cozy feel. Rain or shine, we will take beautiful photos with you and your loved ones inside of the venue.
&nbsp;
2. Goudies Lane is a local favourite. With string lights and colourful murals, this is an iconic location only a 6 minute walk from DTK Chapel.
&nbsp;
3. The intersection of King Street &amp; Queen street is one of my favourite stops for urban wedding portraits. Featuring the Walper hotel, the brick buildings create a romantic urban setting for wedding portraits.

4. Victoria Park is just a 7 minute walk from the DTK Chapel and is a must-stop for photos! With many beautiful trees, manicured gardens and the Old Clock Tower, this is the perfect location to stop for timeless wedding portraits.

DTK Chapel Wedding Photography

Sugar Run is one of the trendiest bars in Downtown Kitchener, perfect for a unique and romantic engagement session. Located near the Walper Hotel, Sugar Run is a speakeasy bar known for its upscale aesthetic and rum-based beverages. The interior is designed to evoke the Prohibition era, featuring elements like chipped concrete beams, exposed electrical conduit, and dark, moody lighting, reminiscent of the clandestine bars of the 1920s.

With a beautiful long bartop, lots of cozy booths, low lighting, and a bottle of Veuve Clicquot Champagne, Sugar Run was the perfect location for a trendy and romantic engagement shoot. Chantelle &amp; Aaron came dressed to the nines, in a classy suit and little white dress (also can we take a moment for Chantelle's shoes?!)

Sugar Run Bar, Downtown Kitchener: Chantelle & Aaron's Romantic Engagement Session

If there's two things I love photographing here in Downtown Kitchener, its absolutely 1. a rooftop session and 2. a creative session. Kait came to me with the idea of a rock-inspired couples session with her husband Austin. They wanted to use the photos for their annual Christmas cards. How much better can it get? We chose one of the parking garage rooftops here in Downtown Kitchener, Kait and Austin came prepared in all black, amp and electric guitar in hand, and we brought their vision to life.
&nbsp;
One of the coolest things about rooftop sessions, is that you get a different kind of sunset. Being a few stories up, the sunset lasts a tiny bit longer, often showing off that deep orange glow as it hits the horizon.

Kitchener Rooftop Photo Session With Kait & Austin

Kait and Mike's beautiful summer wedding took place at the Timber Barn in St Jacob's, Ontario. I&rsquo;m always ecstatic when couples opt for a wedding in St Jacob&rsquo;s as I personally think the village is the perfect location to get married. Not only does the unique architecture and Conestogo river provide a beautiful backdrop for wedding photos, but there is SO much for your wedding guests to see and do in St Jacob&rsquo;s during their time in town.
&nbsp;
The wedding day kicked off with Mike and his friends shooting hoops at their home (how fun!?). Being big Raptors basketball fans, the morning of their wedding Kait gifted Mike a signed basketball and jersey (with specific instructions not to wear it down the aisle hahah).
&nbsp;
After getting ready with Mike, we headed over to the Timber Barn where Kait was getting ready in the bridal suite. Kait had thought of all the details, providing us with a box of family heirlooms and beautiful bouquets that she had arranged herself. There was so much thought and intention put into Kait &amp; Mike&rsquo;s wedding day, which was felt by everyone celebrating. It was an emotion filled morning with not one, not two, but three first looks.
&nbsp;
Kait and Mike had a beautiful riverside ceremony joined by their closest friends and family. St Jacob&rsquo;s riverside ceremonies are always such a wonderful experience with lots of shade from the surrounding trees and a light breeze coming from the river. Everyone then headed to the reception, where Kait and Mike had wonderfully decorated everything themselves. The Timber Barn food was spectacular and the speeches were so moving that I felt myself wiping away some tears.
&nbsp;
At the end of the night, Kait and Mike&rsquo;s friends and family did NOT disappoint on the dance floor. (Justin and Steve, please provide details about your dress pants because we&rsquo;re still not sure how all the seams are intact after multiple splits and high kicks&hellip;)
&nbsp;
Last but definitely not least, the night ended with a snack bar. The pretzels were a huge hit not only for the guests but for us photographers as well haha.
&nbsp;

Timber Barn Wedding: Kait and Mike’s Beautiful Summer Wedding in St Jacob's

Addie &amp; Marcus came to me with their vision board for a trendy, urban engagement session featuring their wedding venue; Tapestry Hall, and I could not have been more excited. While many of my engagement sessions take place in fields &amp; forests, the urban setting of Downtown Cambridge could not have been more perfect for Addie &amp; Marcus. We lucked out with the most perfect September sunset, the gorgeous evening glow showcased downtown Cambridge's gorgeous architectural features creating the perfect backdrop for Addie &amp; Marcus' engagement photos.

After a tour around the Downtown Core, we ventured to Tapestry Hall where Addie &amp; Marcus will be tying the knot this coming fall! Tapestry Hall has a beautiful industrial and modern vibe with a gorgeous bartop and an open space concept, creating the perfect atmosphere for a vibrant formal event. Addie &amp; Marcus changed into a more formal and flirty look (obsessed is an understatement, wait until you see Addie's shoes!).

The Best Wedding Videographers In Kitchener-Waterloo

Dana &amp; Grant had the perfect Waterloo City Hall elopement this past October. The moment they walked into City Hall you could feel their giddiness that the day was here and they were going to marry each other. Their family members were the absolute sweetest, bringing boutonieres and a bouquet for Dana, making the day that much more special.

It's always such an honour to photograph elopements, being welcomed into such an intimate ceremony reserved for the couples closest circle of friends and family.

After reciting their vows and signing their marriage certificate, Dana, Grant, and their family headed over to Waterloo Park for some family and couples portraits.

Some might be discouraged by rain on their wedding day, but Dana &amp; Grant were the sunshine to a cloudy day. With the biggest smiles on their faces and umbrellas in hand, no day could have been more perfect than this rainy fall day.

Engagement sessions are one of my favourite ways to get to know my couples before their wedding day! Not only do we get to know each other better, but my couples also get a feel for being in front of my camera before their big day.

Natalia and Ben came to me asking for hygge vibes - a cozy, relaxed, and comfortable setting. Think cozy coffee shops, fall colours, warm sunsets and comfortable clothes. We decided that starting at <a title="Balzac's Coffee Shop" href="https://balzacs.com/pages/kitchener" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Balzac's Coffee Shop</a> (one of my favourite coffee stops in Kitchener) then heading to Victoria Park, where all the fall leaves were showing, would be the perfect setting.

After finishing our coffees, we made our way over to Victoria Park where we were met with the most stunning fall sunset. The old city hall clock tower, the stunning fall colours and the remaining summer blooms made for the most picturesque backdrop for Natalia &amp; Ben's engagement photos.

We ended the session after sunset at Gaukel Block. Now normally it feels like a crazy idea to shoot at night, but with all the gorgeous string lights lining the street it was the perfect setting for night photography. Natalia and Ben had expressed on a separate occasion how much they love twinkle lights, so this was truly just meant to be!

Natalia & Ben's Cozy Fall Engagement Session in Downtown Kitchener, Ontario

When Katie &amp; Stefan reached out to me to document their wedding, I was ecstatic. I shot Stefan's brother and sister-in-law; <a title="Rhys &amp; Rachael's Wedding" href="https://www.nathaliemonique.com/blog-posts/rachael-rhys-wedding" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Rhys &amp; Rachael's wedding</a> last summer, and I was pumped to be partying with the Eylotte family again this summer!

Stefan &amp; Katie had a beautiful September wedding at <a title="Cherryvale Weddings" href="https://www.cherryvaleweddings.ca/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Cherryvale Weddings</a>, nestled in the heart of Prince Edward County. There's nothing quite like a September wedding - the temperature is perfect, the lighting is divine (truly a photographer's dream), and guests are excited to attend an event as all their summer activities are winding down.

I don't know if I've ever been as excited as I was rolling up to the Cherryvale Weddings venue. As we arrived, we were greeted by a field of fluffy alpacas and the venue's two very friendly dogs - we learned that their names were Echo and Otis. (Like, how cute??) Walking in, the venue was full of activity. The florists from <a title="Stemz Toronto" href="https://www.instagram.com/stemzflowers/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Stemz Toronto</a> were meticulously building the floral ceremony arch, and setting up the reception tent (I don't even think this counts as a tent, it's a gorgeous extension of the venue) with a stunning blend of pink and red florals.

The main building at Cherryvale Weddings was the epitome of rustic elegance and served as the perfect backdrop for Katie and Stefan to get ready for their big day. The warm September sunlight streaming through the windows provided just the right kind of natural lighting that we needed to capture those candid moments getting ready.

&nbsp;

The ceremony was beautiful. Katie &amp; Stefan opted not to do a first look and instead met down the aisle. Katie was truly a VISION. She wore the most stunning gown from <a title="Chic Bridals Toronto" href="https://www.chicbridals.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Chic Bridals Toronto</a> and a cathedral length veil. Stefan &amp; Katie's daughter wore a matching dress made from the same fabric as Katie's dress... It can't get any cuter than that. After Katie &amp; Stefan tied the knot, guests were handed a glass of bubbly as they exited the ceremony and a toast was made to the newlyweds.

While every aspect of the day was perfection, the icing on the cake was golden hour. As the sun began to set, the September glow gave the venue an ethereal charm. We seized this opportunity and took Katie and Stefan for a walk through the beautiful gardens of Cherryvale. The soft glow of the setting sun, the shadow play, and the vibrant colors of the sky provided a breathtaking backdrop for the most gorgeous portraits. We wrapped up the photoshoot in the nearby fields which offered us the most spectacular sunset view we had seen all summer.

The day ended with a night full of dancing, laughter, and unforgettable memories. (As I said earlier, this group knows how to throw a party). We can't help but feel grateful for being a part of Katie and Stefan's perfect day at Cherryvale Weddings. We wish them a lifetime of love and happiness.

Cherryvale Weddings: Katie and Stefan's Gorgeous September Wedding

Abby &amp; I had been messaging over Instagram for the past few months, geeking out over our latest reads and sharing Pinterest boards for her and Evan's engagement and wedding photography. I was so excited to meet them both in person after getting to know them online!
&nbsp;
We shot their engagement photos on Evan's picturesque family farm just outside of Waterloo, Ontario. It was the perfect setting for their engagement photos, with a gorgeous willow tree at the back of the farmhouse and the cutest group of cows grazing in the surrounding fields (I couldn't help but get a few pics of Abby &amp; Evan with them). The setting was nothing short of a romantic pastoral dream.

I am thrilled to capture their love again at their wedding next summer. I cannot wait to see Abby's Pinterest boards come to life, their special day is sure to be a beautiful occasion.

It's been a really rainy summer here in Kitchener-Waterloo, so trying to book a golden hour engagement session with Caleb &amp; Paige was proving to be difficult. After trying to work around the weather, Paige sent me an email reading "If it starts raining, maybe that could be fun." I knew then and there that Caleb &amp; Paige were my people. I was SO down for a cute rainy session.
&nbsp;
The day of the shoot, the forecast predicted a 70% chance of rain. Still, we decided to take a chance and hope for the best, knowing we could always reschedule if the weather didn't cooperate (e.g., torrential downpour instead of a romantic light shower). As we arrived at the park, ominous dark clouds loomed overhead, making me question our decision. However, as if by some miracle, the clouds rolled past us without a single drop of rain, leaving behind one of the most breathtaking sunsets I&rsquo;ve ever seen. (With that luck, I probably should have bought a lottery ticket that night haha.)
&nbsp;
We found ourselves alone in the park, everyone had already evacuated given the risk of thunderstorms. Bathed in the most beautiful golden light, we had the perfect night for our engagement session. The result was beyond anything we could have imagined, making that evening one of the most memorable this summer here in KW.

When should we schedule newborn photos?Newborn photos are often captured 2 - 3 weeks after your little one is born, capturing them at their smallest and sleepiest. Please reach out as soon as possible to book your newborn photos. I only accept a number of newborns each month as the timing of the shoot is unpredictable and I want to ensure I have availability when your little one arrives.&nbsp; How much time do we need to capture all the shots?Newborn sessions can take up to two hours of photography to ensure we can capture photos of your little one sleepy and cuddly between feedings. I would be thrilled to capture your intimate wedding at Waterloo City Hall. City Hall weddings are some of my favourite ceremonies to photograph, where it's just you and your closest friends and family. You may not like being in front of the camera and that is completely normal! I’m here to give you as much or as little guidance as needed, helping you to feel comfortable and confident throughout this milestone moment. While everyone's wedding day is different, this is how my Waterloo City Hall weddings typically will take place: We'll meet at the city hall before your ceremony starts to say hello to you and your guests. Once you have all the paperwork ready, we’ll head into the council chamber for the ceremony. I'll be sure to get lots of photos of you and your guests throughout the ceremony to fully document this once in a lifetime occasion. After the ceremony we will take some group photos of you and your guests. Depending on your group size and the weather, this can take place inside of City Hall or we can walk / drive over to Waterloo Park. To ensure we get all of the combinations of photos you are looking for, I will communicate with you before your wedding day to put together a photo list of all the group shots you want captured :) Once we are finished taking photos of you and your guests, we will sneak away to take photos of just the two of you! Some really popular locations to take photos are right outside of Waterloo City Hall, Waterloo Park and Uptown Waterloo. You will receive some preview photos from me within 3 days of your wedding, then you can expect to receive your full gallery within 3 weeks of your wedding! If you’d like to add extra hours, I am more than happy to create a custom package for you!

We'll plan your session like a date night, let me know what activities you love doing together and we can try and incorporate it into your shoot (e.g., Is there a favourite restaurant you always go to? A park you like to visit?) My greatest goal when you work with me is to help you feel confident and comfortable in front of my camera. Everyone deserves to have beautiful photos taken of themselves and have fun while doing it!

Couples Photography (Kitchener-Waterloo)

This package is perfect for parents who want to capture a mixture of candid and posed moments of their family members. Do your littles want to pick up bugs or play in wheelbarrows? Let's do it! Do you want to have a family picnic on the beach? Save a spot for me! When’s the best time of year to book family photos?For outdoor sessions, May through October will be the best time to capture your family while it’s warmer and we have nice foliage here in Kitchener-Waterloo. For in-home and studio family photos, anytime of year will work well. If you have an interest in studio sessions, let me know and I can recommend some local studios available for rentals! What does a lifestyle family photography session look like?I love capturing moments in natural settings around KW or in meaningful locations to your family such as your home, a favourite park or even your favourite ice cream shop! Once the ceremony begins, I'll be sure to get lots of photos of you and your guests to fully document this once in a lifetime occasion. After the ceremony we will take some group photos of you and your guests. Depending on your group size and the weather, this can take place inside of the DTK Chapel or we can walk over to Victoria Park. To ensure we get all of the combinations of photos you are looking for, I will work with you before your wedding day to put together a photo list of all the group shots :) Once we are finished our photos with friends &amp; family, we will sneak away to take photos of just the two of you! Some really popular locations to take photos are outside of the DTK Chapel, at Goudies Lane, Gaukel Block, along King Street, and of course at Victoria Park! This ends our coverage for the day and you can head off to go and celebrate with all of your loved ones!
